Treating a Sore Knee


The secret to treating a sore knee is knowing what to do and what you should avoid. The problem is that many people do basic things without realizing that it can lead to further damage of the knee. For example, some people continue taking showers and baths. This is dangerous because the heat actually causes further swelling of the sore knee. For at least two days after the injury first appears, you must avoid anything that causes swelling, including heating pads and showers. Once the swelling passes and you still have a sore knee, you can start using a heating pad.

The first 48 hours after the injury that causes a Sore Knee is the most important moment of your injury. During this time, you must rest your sore knee as much as possible. Find a spot in your home where you feel comfortable and settle in for a few days. Tuck a small pillow or a rolled blanket under your knee, which keeps the knee raised in the air. Keep the elastic bandage wrapped tightly around your knee. If you notice any additional pain in the sore knee, numbness or a tingly sensation, this is a sign that you wrapped the bandage too tightly. Remove the bandage and apply it looser. Never use an elastic bandage for more than 72 hours. If you still have a sore knee, talk to a doctor.

The biggest tip when treating a Sore Knee is that you must stay off your knee. Keep your knee raised and resting for much of the day. If you need to get to the bathroom or move around the house, try using a pair of crutches. Your sore knee will only get better if you take care of it. These treatment methods help with a wide range of knee injuries.
