Natural Anti-Inflammatories – A Natural Diet that Fights Inflammation

Many people hear the word inflammation but don’t really know what it means. Most assume inflammation is another word for infection but it is not. It is the body’s response to harmful stimuli, such as damaged cells and pathogens, which attempts to rid the body of the stimuli and start the healing process. It is a necessary component of the body’s self defense mechanism. However, like most things, when it gets out of control it can actually become a hindrance to a person’s normal functioning. Chronic inflammation can lead to the onset of serious diseases such as hay fever, rheumatoid arthritis, and atherosclerosis.

Natural Anti-InflammatoriesThere are many ways to treat chronic inflammation which usually involve pharmaceutical medications. However, Natural Anti-Inflammatories exist. Something as simple as a change in diet can help you manage a chronic inflammatory condition. Classically healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and seafood contain natural anti-inflammatories that can help reduce or eliminate inflammation in the body. For example, broccoli, sweet potatoes, turmeric, oregano, garlic, green tea, blueberries, and ginger have polyphenols and bioflavonoids that fight off free-radicals which is another cause of inflammation in the body.

Essential Fatty Acids, like Omega-3 and Omega-6, are also sources of Natural Anti-Inflammatories. You’ll find these acids in foods like olive oil, salmon, anchovies, fish oil, flax seed oil, and grapeseed oil. You want to make sure that your source of essential fatty acids is free of other toxins, like the mercury found in many sea foods. Otherwise, you’ll risk compounding your inflammation problems instead of mitigating them. There are many oral and liquid supplements on the market that offer the same Natural Anti-Inflammatories without the risk of ingesting additional toxins. If you are a vegetarian, you can get essential fatty acids from certain algae as well as flaxseeds.

Natural Anti-Inflammatories are just as much about what you don’t eat as what you do. If you are struggling with an inflammatory condition then you’ll want to check your diet and eliminate foods that may be aggravating it. Processed foods should definitely go in the trash because they often contain trans fats and other toxins that irritate the body. You may also have food sensitivities that you are not aware of. Gluten, eggs, dairy, soy and nuts are just a few common foods that irritate sensitive systems and you should try eliminating them one by one to see if your condition improves. Medication is not always the answer. Sometimes you can find Natural Anti-Inflammatories right in your kitchen pantry.
