Fibromyalgia is a medical condition wherein a patient suffers from chronic body, joint and muscle pain. It is usually characterized as a condition worsened by sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, anxiety and mood issues. Unlike rheumatic diseases, Fibromyalgia is not caused by the inflammation of tissues that is why it does not result in deformed joints.
Women suffering from hot flashes during their menopausal stage are the ones who usually suffer from this condition.
Causes are still unknown
The causes of this chronic condition are still unknown. However, it is found that in this condition, there is a sensitive pain response in the brain of the patients. The patient may complain that the pain is coming from the joint, but it is not.
Also, there are several risk factors known to trigger Fibromyalgia like depression, physical and emotional trauma, infection and sleep disorders.
The pain is not caused by tissue inflammation
The main symptom of Fibromyalgia is severe pain because of the aggravated sensitivity of the brain stimuli. The pain felt by the patient can be aggravated by simple noise, pollution or simple activity.
There can also be problems with their concentration, bowel movement and speed of performance
Fatigue, depressed mood and sleep problems are seen in almost all patients with Fibromyalgia. Many say that they can’t get to sleep or stay asleep, and they feel tired when they wake up.
The pain is felt in the arms, chest, neck and sometimes, all over the body.
Relief from Pain is the Main Target of Treatment
To help the patient manage the symptoms, there are several treatments available for the disease like physical therapy, fitness programs and relaxation treatments.
The patient will be required to visit the clinic frequently for treatment. If said treatments do not work, the doctor may prescribe additional medications such as painkillers so the patient will be able to tolerate the pain.
