Natural Joint Relief – Natural Alternatives to Medication

Janice Carson

The pain caused by arthritis can affect every facet of your life. Many doctors simply prescribe various types of medication to deal with the pain without treating the underlying cause. Generally, arthritis pain is caused by several factors, including inflammation, nerve damage, fatigue, and muscle tension. The pain causes stress, which causes tension, which causes even more pain. It’s a vicious cycle. If you want natural joint relief, however, you will be happy to know that there are several natural treatments available, from dietary supplements, to acupressure, to chiropractic care. Remember to let your doctor know before you start a new course of treatment for natural joint relief.

Natural Joint ReliefThe use of dietary supplements to provide natural joint relief is becoming more popular by the day. Fish oil, MSM, glucosamine, and chondroitin sulfate are the most popular ingredients in natural joint relief supplements. Fish oil provides Omega-3 Fatty Acids that reduce inflammation, removing one of the causes of arthritis pain. Glucosamine works to repair cartilage, and chondroitin prevents cartilage breakdown, making the two an effective combination. MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, seems to be effective in reducing symptoms caused by rheumatoid arthritis, and is often marketed as an arthritis cure. However, research remains inconclusive at this time. Be careful when using any dietary supplement for natural joint relief, as dietary supplements are not regulated by the FDA.

Acupressure, also called Shiatsu, is another natural joint relief treatment. Acupressure is a finger pressure technique that uses the Chinese meridian system. Although often mistaken for acupuncture, acupressure does not use needles. Instead, this natural joint relief treatment relies on a variety of massage techniques to relax muscles and relieve tension. The relaxation helps temporarily stop the cycle of pain and provides some much needed relief.

Chiropractic care can be considered an alternative treatment or a complement to an existing drug regimen. Chiropractors manipulate the spine to make sure everything is aligned correctly. This type of treatment is recommended for anyone who suffers from chronic neck, back, or arthritis pain, among others. Regulation of chiropractors varies by state. As with any natural or alternative natural joint relief method, chiropractic care involves controversial methods. Researchers have not decided whether chiropractors are effective or not. Try going for a session or two so that you can decide for yourself. As always, make sure to let your doctor know before you start a new course of natural pain relief treatment.
