Joint Knee Pain – Identification and Treatment

Janice Carson

Do you love to play sports, go for walks with your kids in the evening, or try on new shoes in the mall? You’ve probably never thought about it this way, but all this activities depend on the health of one of your most important joints, the knee. When you suffer from joint knee pain, it can feel like every little movement is sending bolts of pain into your leg. Without the ability to walk around as you please, it’s likely that you will slip into depression, and find it difficult to continue your career. If you are dealing with joint knee pain, it’s important that you make your doctor aware of the condition right away. Proper identification of the cause of joint knee pain is essential for treatment.

Joint Knee PainIn order to fully understand and treat your joint knee pain, it’s important for you to have a good understanding of how the knee works when it’s healthy. With or without joint knee pain , the knee is one of the body’s most important joints, and it is made up of three compartments: the medial and lateral compartments, as well as the patella (kneecap) which connects to the femur to form the patellofemoral joint. When you are free from joint knee pain, these compartments are secured by ligaments and cartilage. Experiencing joint knee pain usually means these ligaments and cartilage have been damaged.

Because it is used every time we squat, bend, walk, run, or jump, the knee is at extreme risk for developing joint knee pain almost every day of our lives. Doctors report that almost all joint knee pain is the result of the knee experiencing some kind of trauma. All the different compartments that make up this joint give even more opportunities for twisting, falling or overloading accidents to happen, increasing the odds that you will experience joint knee pain at some point in your life. The good news is that joint knee pain resulting from injury is usually temporary, and can be healed through a combination of supplements and exercise.

Depending on and abusing our knees the way we do in the course of a lifetime is enough to cause knee joint pain all on its own. This means that even if you never have a definite injury to your knee, over time the ligaments and cartilage are likely to wear down on their own causing joint knee pain. If you are experiencing knee joint pain because of old age, it is even more important for you to add a joint supplement like glucosamine or chondroitin to your diet.
