Kathy Martin

Traditional joint pain treatments usually involve copious amounts of medication. While traditional drugs do work well, they can also cause interactions and potentially severe side effects. Taking herbs for joint pain instead of traditional drugs can often work just as well. Although the medical establishment remains skeptical regarding the effectiveness of taking herbs for joint pain, many people around the world believe in the healing properties of herbs. Even though these products are completely natural, you might want to check with your doctor in case they will interact negatively with other medication.

Herbs for Joint PainIf you have olive oil in your kitchen, you are in luck! The main ingredient in olive oil, oleocanthal, seems to work in the same manner as Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). 50 grams of olive provides the same amount of pain relief as one tenth of an adult dose of Ibuprofen. Taking olive oil alone will not work; you will need other herbs for joint pain relief. Try combining regular doses of olive oil with the more powerful oregano for maximum benefit. Oregano oil can be used topically, taken orally, or applied to a compress. Taking these herbs for joint pain can relieve arthritis, tendonitis, toothaches, stomachaches, and other ailments.

Fish oil provides beneficial Omega-3 Fatty Acids and is often used to treat joint pain. Taking herbs for joint pain also provides many other benefits. Fish oil boosts immune function, supports your circulatory system, reduces inflammation, and helps treat autoimmune disorders such as lupus. If you are thinking about taking herbs for joint pain, make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Many people rely on the relative safety of herbs for joint pain and forget to watch out negative reactions.

Other natural joint pain relievers include glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM. Using any of these herbs for joint pain relief will result in short-term pain reduction and long-term health benefits. Glucosamine and chondroitin are often combined for best effect. Glucosamine helps repair cartilage, while chondroitin slows cartilage breakdown. MSM (methyl-sulphonyl-methane) is a natural sulfur compound. Not only is it an effective painkiller, but MSM has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-spasmodic properties. Taking herbs for joint pain with MSM will relieve arthritis symptoms over time. Although clinical trials have produced inconsistent results, MSM remains one of the best herbs for joint pain. Taking any of these herbs for joint pain relief will allow you to regain mobility without becoming depending on traditional drugs.
