Arthritis Pain Reliever – NSAIDs
A common arthritis pain reliever is a class of drugs known as NSAIDs. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are medications, generally available over the counter, which provide analgesic and fever reducing qualities. At higher dosages, these medicines also provide anti-inflammatory effects. All of these qualities make NSAIDs a choice arthritis pain reliever. The most common NSAIDs are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Since arthritis symptoms include inflammation, swelling, and pain, the use of NSAIDs as an arthritis pain reliever makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, NSAIDs have side effects, especially when used over prolonged periods like those needed by arthritis sufferers.
When used over a prolonged period or at higher doses, NSAIDs increase the risk of adverse drug reactions such as gastrointestinal and/or renal issues. Users must balance the effectiveness of their Arthritis Pain Reliever against the possibility of side effects such as ulcers and dyspepsia. Renal issues from a common NSAID arthritis pain reliever such as naproxen, ibuprofen, or aspirin can include salt or fluid retention and/or hypertension (high blood pressure.) Other, more serious and life threatening conditions such as the perforation of gastric ulcers and acute renal failure have been reported and careful consideration should be made for individuals a higher risk of such conditions.
In terms of Arthritis Pain Reliever, there are natural remedies that can provide similar effects of NSAIDs without the risk of potential health concerns. Natural arthritis pain relievers such as Feverfew and Boswellia have been dubbed nature’s NSAIDs. Boswellia, for example, has many of the same anti-inflammatory properties as common over the counter arthritis pain relievers. However, unlike those arthritis pain relievers like ibuprofen, aspirin, or naproxen, Boswellia does not cause gastric ulcers or the stomach upset NSAIDs are known to cause. Boswellia is an arthritis pain reliever that is safe and effective for long term arthritis pain management.
Feverfew, another herbal Arthritis Pain Reliever, has been used by herbalists and ancient physicians for centuries. In studies of arthritis pain relievers, many participants reported more relief from using feverfew than from using common NSAIDs. It is available in health food stores and grocery aisles nationwide. The recommended dosage as an arthritis pain reliever is 250mg one or two times per day. Like Boswellia, feverfew does not have the same adverse risks such as gastrointestinal or renal problems as seen in prolonged use of NSAID arthritis pain relievers. Not to mention, dosing is less frequent at once to twice a day versus the every four hour dosing of NSAIDs.
