Sharon Conroy

Arthritis can be a debilitating disease. It is the most common reason for disability in America. Over 20 million people suffer from the disease, with many finding physical activity severely limited due to arthritic pain. Arthritis pain relief is one of the most common reasons these individuals see their physician. It is estimated that nearly 45 million doctor visits each year are patients seeking arthritis pain relief. Most treatments and remedies geared towards arthritis pain relief seek to reduce painful swelling, disrupt the body’s reaction or intensity of pain felt, and to increase strength and flexibility in affected joints.

Arthritis Pain Relief With the total yearly cost estimate for arthritis hovering at nearly $100 billion, effective and inexpensive methods for obtaining Arthritis pain relief are common and eagerly sought. Herbal teas, considered a dietary supplement, can provide some degree of arthritis pain relief for those who know what teas to use and how to properly prepare them. Many herbal remedy teas, when used routinely in a three week on, one week off regimen, provide considerable arthritis pain relief, especially when combined with other pain relief efforts such as medications, other dietary supplements, as well as properly prescribed or recommended exercise.

Angelica is one such herb used in Arthritis pain relief teas. It has numerous constituents to provide arthritis pain relief through anti-inflammatory agents, antispasmodics, and anodyne constituents. Anti-inflammatory compounds reduce painful irritation and swelling. Antispasmodics provide muscle relaxants. Anodyne constituents provide arthritis pain relief with their pain relieving effects similar to aspirin. The Western variety of Angelica is the same as the Chinese herb dang gui or dong quai, which have also been used for centuries for arthritis pain relief. One tablespoon of either variety boiled in a pint of water for two minutes and then kept covered until cooled can be drunk three times a day for arthritis pain relief. It is recommended to drink daily for two to three weeks, and then stop for at least one week.

Black Cohosh is another common Arthritis pain relief tea. As with Angelica, this American Indian remedy has been used for centuries for arthritis pain relief. The root is simmered one teaspoon of root to one cup of water for twenty minutes. Strain and split tea into two doses per day. To properly manage arthritis pain relief, observe the same two to three weeks on, one week to ten days off dosing schedule as Angelica and other herbal teas.
