You may think that there could not possibly be too many different ways in which to do an arthritis knee exercise, but you would be incorrect on that assumption. There are actually quite a few on the list when it comes to an arthritis knee exercise that you can find on the Internet or just ask a physical therapist for some to do at home.

One arthritis knee exercise you can do yourself at home is walk backwards. Believe it or not, but walking backwards is an arthritis knee exercise that really does work. The reason that walking backwards works for your arthritic knees is that it causes your body weight to be better distributed to your feet. For most people, the source of their arthritic pain comes from the way their weight is distributed to their feet so that is why walking backwards is a good arthritis knee exercise. This also helps strengthen your legs, which is also important to your treatment.

The next arthritis knee exercise you can try is standing with your feet flat on the floor and with your hands flat on a hard and steady surface in front of you. In this arthritis knee exercise, you will gradually put weight on your hands and push yourself up. This causes your feet to leave the floor and then you lower yourself back down. This is a good arthritis knee exercise because it helps to strengthen your lower legs and knees. Having strong legs and knees is essential if you want to help with the joints that are affected by the arthritic pain.

Another arthritis knee exercise you can try is to lay flat on your back with a towel under one knee. You will need an ankle weight for this arthritis knee exercise, so keep that in mind. You will put the ankle weight on the ankle of the leg that you have towel under the knee. Keeping your body flat, you will begin with your knee bent over the towel. Slowly you will straighten your leg and then return to the original position. This is a good arthritis knee exercise because it strengthens the knees which, again, are essential when it comes to helping to treat the arthritic pain in the knees.
