Arthritis Joint Pain – Understanding Joint Health

Kathy Martin

Did you know that over twenty million people in the United States suffer from some type of arthritis joint pain? Despite popular opinion, there are actually many different types of arthritis joint pain, even though people usually use the term interchangeably. There’s also a difference between arthritis joint pain and general pain that results from normal wear and tear on the joints over an entire lifestyle. If you think that you’re experiencing arthritic joint pain, it’s important to talk to your doctor about which type you might have and how it would best be treated. Keep in mind that with all the supplements and treatment methods available today, there’s not need to suffer unnecessarily.

Arthritis Joint PainIn general, arthritis joint pain refers to a condition in which the joints have become inflamed due to stress, injury, or old age. Arthritis joint pain is usually absent in younger populations simply because they have not yet had a chance to wear out the cartilage, tendons and ligaments that surround the joints and give them the ability to move smoothly. As you get older, arthritis joint pain is more prevalent because the joints become warn, and often overworked because of consistent weight gain. It’s important to realize that injuries and illnesses can often display the same symptoms as arthritis joint pain, but the causes are different and usually more temporary.

It’s important for you to know that the most common form of arthritis joint pain is called rheumatoid arthritis. This is also one of the most severe types of arthritis joint pain because it is the result of an autoimmune disease in which the body actually attacks the cartilage and membranes surrounding the joints. Many people find that they can only manage this type of arthritis joint pain with the help of serious narcotic pain medications. It’s important to point out, however, that painkillers will never really eliminate this arthritis joint pain.

The next most common type of arthritis joint pain is osteoarthritis. Unlike some other forms of arthritis, this type of arthritis joint pain is degenerative, and is most popular among the senior citizen population. This arthritis joint pain can be quite severe, as it causes the natural cartilage to break down and eventually disappear. Patients suffering from this type of arthritis joint pain are the most likely to take supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin which can help the body to continue producing cartilage and lubricant for the joints.
