Arthritis in the Back – How You Can Treat Your Arthritis in Your Back

Sharon Conroy

When it comes to arthritis in the back, the condition is usually referred to simply as spondylitis. Arthritis in the back is not so easy to treat because the source usually lies in the spine or spinal cord. While the arthritis in the back may be the initial source of the pain, this condition usually affects several other parts of the body such as the arms, legs and hip area. Those who suffer from arthritis in the back will usually feel radiating pain down their legs and arms. This condition definitely makes every day life quite miserable and difficult to go through.

Because of how much pain is involved in the symptoms of arthritis in the back, a proper diagnosis is usually not needed in order for a patient to know they have it. However, a diagnosis from a doctor that you have arthritis in the back is needed in order to go ahead with treatment. It is generally easier to diagnose arthritis in the back than it is in other parts of the body. The most testing a doctor will usually require is a plain x-ray. Generally, however, going over your medical history and doing a simple physical examination will tell your doctor everything he or she needs to know in order to diagnose you with arthritis in the back.

One of the main ways in which arthritis in the back is treated is through pain control. This can be done over the counter if your arthritis in the back pain is not too severe. However, if it is not at a manageable level with your over the counter treatment methods, then you can utilize the pain treatment options your doctor recommends. However, you do not want to do just pain control for the long term if something else will help the arthritis in the back better for that period of time. This is where physical therapy comes in. If the physical therapy does not help with the arthritis in the back, surgery may be required, but this is done only after all other treatment options have been exhausted.

You could also try going to a chiropractor for your arthritis in the back pain. However, you will likely not see as good results if your arthritis in the back pain is too severe. The best thing you can do is discuss all of your treatment options available for arthritis in the back and just go down the list if certain treatment methods do not work out for you.
